LeShay’s mother Shantrell Brown told an interviewer, “I was crying because I was scared.” She recounted that it was her first time riding a helicopter and she was frightened. LeShay, meanwhile, remained silent and appeared comfortable inside the aircraft. Maroney and Shantrell both described LeShay in the same manner!

Shantrell had a total of five children and she recalled the experience in one interview, “The helicopter had open doors, so I looked out and you could just see all the water over everything, and it was just too much for me, so she [LeShay] was comforting me.” She was also terrified by the idea that something would happen to her kids.
