Battle of the Bands
In 1966, they competed in the Battle of the Bands at Hollywood Bowl. They won and eventually signed with RCA records! However, they were eventually sacked by the label as they did not think the singles they produced would become hits. Karen joined both Richard and Wes at college after her high school graduation in 1967. The trio did not give up and kept recording in the studio owned by the popular bassist Joe Osborn.

Small Time Job
Upon her college graduation, Karen embarked on a job hunt, not unlike every other fresh graduate. She actually began a career in the printing business, but this did not last very long. She eventually decided to concentrate on music.
