Her First Set
Karen convinced her parents to get her a Ludwig set for an amount of $300. She had a drummer friend named Frankie Chavez who was instrumental in her determination to learn the drums. Karen proved to be a natural. It took her practically no time to learn the 5/4 time signature of ‘Take Five’ by Dave Brubeck. Wow!
Trio
It all began when Richard, Karen, and Wesley Jacobs created a band in 1965. The trio specialized in jazz music. Richard was on the piano, Karen was on the drums, and Wesley was on either the bass or the tuba. Back then, Karen did not have a lot of experience when it came to singing. However, she took voice lessons and finally gained enough confidence to perform.
