Their Inspiration
So we know what Bewitched inspired, but what inspired the show itself? The sitcom was based on films like I Married a Witch from 1942 and Bell, Book and Candle from 1958. The show was created by Screen Gems, which was an offshoot of Columbia Pictures, which produced both of the films that inspired the show.

While it might seem hard to believe nowadays, but separated couples were not really shown on TV during the 1960’s. However, Bewitched became one of the first shows to portray a separated couple. It showed Endora battling with Samantha’s father Maurice, helping the show make history.
