Kim Basinger
Kim Basinger is quite the talented model and actress! She made her debut on the small screen in a 1976 miniseries called Gemini Man. She had no problems looking for a job after that role! You probably remember her portrayal of Lynn Bracken in the film L.A. Confidential. Her acting career did not end there however, she is still acting to this day. In fact, she has appeared in both The Nice Guys and Fifty Shades Darker.
Linda Ronstadt
Linda Ronstadt’s career took off when she was a regular performer at the Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood. The musician is perhaps better known as the “Queen of Rock” or the “First Lady of Rock”. It’s safe to say that she enjoyed a successful career— she even went on to win 10 Grammys and achieved 30 gold and platinum records! She only retired from singing when she received a Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis back in 2012. Luckily for us, she wrote down a memoir called Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir, in the year 2013.
Goldie Hawn
Now, who can ever forget her appearance on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In? It practically jump-started her career and she was able to star in comedies like There’s a Girl in My Soup and Butterflies Are Free afterward. She was able to make a name for herself after her performances in hits such as The First Wives Club, Overboard, and Death Becomes Her. She was MIA in the industry during the early 2000’s, but she made a comeback with the 2017 movie Snatched where she appeared alongside Amy Schumer. It is also worth mentioning that the actress gave a thumbs up when asked about the Overboard remake!
Pam Grier
Pam Grier became famous during the first half of the 1970’s when she appeared in various Blaxploitation movies. Perhaps you remember her from Coffy, Foxy Brown, and Sheba, Baby. She was still active in the industry when the decade came to pass. She even appeared in Bad Grandmas, Man with the Iron Fists, and Mars Attacks! Fans will be thrilled to hear that her biopic is on the way. More recently, she appeared in This Is Us as the grandmother.
Linda Gray
Linda Gray had quite the unusual tale. She was actually the body double for The Graduate’s Mrs. Robinson and she was able to become a star of her own after filming the movie. Fun fact: she was paid $25 for a shot of her leg in the promotional posters of the movie. Yup, you are mistaken if you thought the leg was Anne Bancroft’s. She then received the lead role of Sue Ellen on Dallas and she went on to reprise the role in the remake. You will also see her in The Entertainers, Oscar, Star of Jaipur, and Prescience.
Barbara Streisand
Come on now, who doesn’t know Barbara Streisand? She first experienced success after her parts in the musicals Funny Girl and Hello, Dolly! These productions were staged in the late 60’s but she would enjoy even more success in the 70’s. She has also dabbled in composing, directing, producing, and writing! Keep an eye peeled out for The Politician, where she will be starring alongside Gwyneth Paltrow. Of course, let’s not forget that she’s always on the list of the best-selling musicians of all time!
Billie Jean King
Billie Jean is quite a sporting legend! This title was further cemented after she beat Bobby Riggs in an iconic 1973 tennis match that was eventually called the “Battle of the Sexes”. In the film inspired by the event, she was portrayed by none other than Emma Stone. She was also one of the first female athletes to come out of the closet! Six years later, she became a part of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and got divorced from Larry King. She has since been with her former tennis partner Ilana Kloss, and the couple presently lives in New York.
Ann-Margret
Remember Kim McAfee from the film adaptation of Bye Bye Birdie? Yup, that was actually Ann-Margret’s breakout role! After portraying the character, her career took on a life of its own. These days, she remains active in the entertainment industry. In fact, she recently starred in the films Going in Style as well as Papa. Aside from acting, she is also a Grammy-nominated musician!
Alison Arngrim
Alison Arngrim is best known for playing Nellie in Little House on the Prairie. After the iconic role in the show, she went on to appear in both film and television projects. However, nothing ever came close to the level of success she achieved on the show. Let’s not forget that she released a memoir titled Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated, which was quite successful. These days, she is busy with charity work.
Maureen McCormick
How can we forget the actress who portrayed Marcia Brady on the iconic family sitcom The Brady Bunch? Once the show wrapped up, Maureen McCormick was able to play the same role in the multiple spin-offs that came afterward. She also appeared on reality shows like I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! as well as Dancing with the Stars. Perhaps you even saw her performance in The Neighborhood alongside Danny Aiello. Teri Garr
We’re sure you remember Teri Garr AKA Igna in the fantasy-horror film Young Frankenstein! After the movie, she also went on to star in Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Tootsie. In 2002, she announced that she had multiple sclerosis. At present, she is both the National Ambassador and the National Chair for Women Against MS for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Her last acting credit was back in 2007.

After a successful career in the entertainment industry, she made the shift and began focusing on her philanthropic work instead. She is especially passionate about promoting autism awareness.
Paula Prentiss
Paula Prentiss actually started out as a comedy actress! By the middle of the 70’s, however, she was proving just how talented she was outside of the genre. She first did this by appearing in the horror movie called The Stepford Wives. How can we forget to mention her performances in The Black Marble, He & She, and What’s New Pussycat? While she has not had the lead role in a while, she did play a part in the 2016 horror flick I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House.
Loretta Swit
Of course, Emmy Award-winner Loretta Swit is best known for portraying Major Margaret on the show M*A*S*H. She was last active in the scene during the late 90’s but she did some voice acting work in more recent years. Fans will also be excited to hear that she is will be in the upcoming movie Pay the Flute. Aside from acting, she is also a writer! Fun fact: she wrote A Needlepoint Scrapbook in 1985!
Debbie Harry
Here’s something you might not know about Debbie Harry of Blondie: she was born under the name Angela Tremble! The band first released an album in the year 1976. Blondie made a comeback in 1997 and they are still performing to this day. In fact, they launched an album in 2017! Harry is yet another philanthropist and she claims that Elton John has a huge influence on this. “After witnessing Elton John and his tireless efforts against HIV/AIDS. These things are important to my life now. I have the privilege of being able to get involved, so I do. I applaud people like Elton John, who have used their position to do so much good,” she revealed. She also supports groups that focus on endometriosis and cancer.
Ali MacGraw
Ali MacGraw’s first acting projects were actually commercials. Her big break came when she landed the part of Jenny in the iconic film Love Story. She might have become a successful actress since then, but she actually only appeared in three films in the 70s: The Getaway, Convoy, and Players. Her most recent film credit was for the 1997 movie Glam. Oh, and she also reunited with her Love Story costar Ryan O’Neal for the theater adaptation of Love Letters.
Loni Anderson
Loni Anderson experienced a fairly slow beginning to the 70’s as she only received minor parts on the small screen. Everything changed when she was given the part of Jennifer in WKRP in Cincinnati in 1978. Fame came easily after that specific role. She went on to star in Easy Street, Partners in Crime, and White Hot: The Mysterious Murder of Thelma Todd. She was also seen in the Amazon flick Love You More with Bridget Everett.
Jane Seymour
Jane Seymour shot into stardom after portraying Solitaire in the film Live and Let Die. Soon after that performance, she landed roles in projects like Battlestar Galactica and The Four Feathers. She still acts to this day and she has also started writing self-help and inspirational books. Like others on the list, she also participates in charity work and focuses on helping young victims of abuse and neglect. Earlier this year, she became the oldest woman to shoot for Playboy at the age of 67! It was her third time to pose for the magazine. She now works as an author, photographer, real estate developer, and singer.

She first became famous in the 70’s when she appeared in the film Badlands. She had no problem finding a job after that! You might even remember her for Oscar-nominated performance as the titular character in the horror film Carrie. She continued to act in great films throughout the years. You can also see her in the movies The Coal Miner’s Daughter, The Help, In the Bedroom, and Missing.
Faye Dunaway
Dunaway actually started out as a theater actress on Broadway. She made her film debut in 1967 when she joined the cast of The Happening. However, her first taste of great success was after playing Bonnie in Bonnie and Clyde. She even went on to win an Academy Award for her performance in the movie! More recently, she appeared in the thriller film Inconceivable together with Nicolas Cage and Gina Gershon. She prefers to keep her personal life private, but we do know that she was twice married. Her marriage to Terry O’Neill brought them a son together, though they decided to call it quits in 1987.
Julie Andrews
Julie Andrews is one of the best-loved actresses even until the present. The star actually started acting on Broadway where she starred in productions of Camelot and My Fair Lady. It’s not really surprising when you consider how musically gifted she is! We know this from her performances in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Aside from her success on the big screen, she was also in various ABC specials back in the 70’s. Oh, and she has also dabbled in voice acting and even worked on Despicable Me 3. Lastly, she has penned several children’s books and a memoir.
Beverly Johnson
Beverly Johnson made waves for being the first African American model to grace the covers of French Elle and American Vogue. She has also dabbled in acting through the years and has appeared in several films. She wrote a 2014 Vanity Fair article about how Bill Cosby occasionally drugged her `in the 80’s. She also talked about the unfortunate incident in her 2015 memoir.
Karen Lynn Gorney
Remember the actress who portrayed the character Tara Martin on All My Children? If you don’t, you probably recall Karen Lynn Gorney as Stephanie in Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta. She went on an acting hiatus in the 80’s and only made her comeback after a decade. She appeared in various shows like Law & Order and The Sopranos. More recently, she appeared in the film H.O.M.E. and we’re glad to hear that she is presently working on other projects.
Lorraine Gary
Lorraine Gary first came into the limelight after playing the protagonist in the classic horror film Jaws. The 1975 Spielberg film was initially supposed to be her last film as well since she wanted to retire right away. Nonetheless, she ended up reprising the same role in the 1987 sequel Jaws: The Revenge. These days, you will find her schedule filled with her charity work. She is involved with the Human Rights Watch Africa Advisory Committee as well as the Human Rights Watch Women’s Rights Advisory Committee.
Ellen Burstyn
No one will ever deny the fact that Ellen Burstyn was an important figure in the 1970’s. She received Oscar nominations for her performances in the films The Last Picture Show and The Exorcist, and went on to win one for her work in the Martin Scorsese film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her other important projects include the films: Requiem for a Dream and Resurrection. She is still acting these days and last appeared in the 2018 HBO movie The Tale opposite Laura Dern.

We all know Meryl Streep, of course! We love her for her iconic performances, but did you know that she first started acting on Broadway? Diana Ross is the talented lead singer of The Supremes. The musical group is still believed to be one of the best bands that American has ever seen. The Supremes were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at some point. After the group disbanded, Diana Ross was able to launch a successful solo career after she released hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” as well as “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)”. She has dabbled in acting since then, if that’s not impressive enough for you! Fans will be pleased to hear that she was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

Mindy Cohn is best known for playing Natalie on the American sitcom The Facts of Life. Once the show wrapped up, she continued to act in projects like The Second Half, The Kids From Room 402, and The Secret Life of an American Teenager. Younger readers might also recognize her as the voice behind Velma from Scooby-Doo. One of her recent performances was for Hollywood Dirt.
Cybill Shepherd
Cybill Shepherd rose to fame after making her film debut in the 1971 drama The Last Picture Show. After that project, she also appeared in the classic movies The Heartbreak Kid and Taxi Driver. Agnetha Faltskog
Agnetha Faltskog is mostly recognized as a member of the Swedish musical group ABBA. In fact, Agnetha is actually what the A in the name stands for! Who doesn’t know their songs “Dancing Queen” and “Take a Chance on Me”? No one, that’s who. Fans were saddened to hear the news of their disbandment in the 80’s but everyone was thrilled to hear about their comeback in 2018, 35 years since they first broke up. Faltskog also tried her hand at a solo career and penned an autobiography back in 2016.

Carly Simon’s first album was released in 1971 and it contained the hit song “That’s the Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be”! Just several months after that, she released her second album. However, it was her 1972 song “You’re So Vain” that made her a household name. She has been performing ever since and even accompanied Taylor Swift during the younger artist’s Red tour. In 2015, she published a memoir detailing her life from her childhood, to her failed relationship with fellow musician James Taylor.

You might be surprised to hear that Sigourney Weaver’s acting career started when she appeared in the film Annie Hall. It was a fairly minor role but it served as a turning point for the actress nonetheless. However, it was her work in the Alien franchise that truly propelled her to stardom! She has also appeared in popular movies like Avatar, Ghostbusters, and Holes. She has also appeared on the Broadway stage, where she won a Tony Award! She is still active in the industry and boy, are we glad for it.

Catherine Bach is best known for playing Daisy Duke on the American comedy show The Dukes of Hazzard. After that role, she continued to act in other films. She even landed the role of Anita Lawson in the soap opera The Young and the Restless! Aside from that, she appeared in the made for television movie My Best Friend.
Lynda Carter
Did you know that Lynda Carter is Wonder Woman both on and off the set? It’s true! She was even the 1972 Miss World America before she went on to portray the superhero on the small screen until 1979. After the show, she continued acting and even released her own music. Her more recent projects include The Dukes of Hazzard, Super Girl, Super Troopers 2, and Sky High.
Chris Evert
Chris Evert actually started playing tennis at the tender age of five years old! How impressive is that? She has been a world champion starting from the year 1974 until 1981! In 1976, she was also hailed as the first “Sportswoman of the Year” by Sports Illustrated. She might have retired from playing but she has since turned to working as a coach, ESPN analyst, and businesswoman. Interestingly, she and Serena Williams share the record of six US Open championship wins.
Shelley Duvall
Everyone first started noticing Shelley Duvall when she appeared in several Robert Altman films. Surely, you remember her performances in 70’s films like 3 Women, Brewster McCloud, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Nashville, and Thieves Like Us. The following decade, she became even more popular when she accepted big parts in The Shining and Popeye. After a successful acting career throughout the 80’s and the 90’s, she decided to focus on producing children’s shows. Her last acting jobs were during the early 2000’s. More recently, she hit the news when USA Today and Dr. Phil referred to her as mentally ill back in 2016.
Cloris Leachman
During the 70’s, Cloris Leachman was already able to achieve a decent amount of success. The era was able to witness the start of what would eventually become a great Hollywood career. Around this time, she won an Academy Award for her work in The Last Picture Show. She has since gone on to win multiple awards for her work on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She has been able to garner nearly 300 acting credits! She might be over 90 years now, but she continues to act.

Jodie Foster actually began her acting career by starring in commercials during the 1960’s. As more and more people saw her, she started to get minor roles in television shows. It was in the 1970’s that she would make her big break in the show Paper Moon based on the movie of the same name. Her first mature role was as Iris in the classic film Taxi Driver. The rest is pretty much history. She has two Oscars and other awards under her belt. These days, she prefers to stay behind the camera instead of in front of it.

In the 70’s, Rene Russo entered the scene as a talented and gorgeous model. Around this time, she graced the covers of publications like Cosmopolitan and Vogue. She only became a household name by the time the 80’s rolled in, however. That was when she joined the cast of the show called Sable. While she was a student at NYU, Jami Gertz was discovered by a talent agent. She made her on-screen film debut in a minor role in the 1981 romcom On the Right Track. However, her big break was actually her performance as Muffy in the sitcom Square Pegs. Her acting resume is full of roles in television shows such as Ally McBeal, Entourage, ER, and The Facts of Life.
Mia Sara
There was no doubt that Mia Sara was going to end up as an artist. After all, she is the daughter of photographers! She was propelled to fame after playing the role of Lilly in the 1985 Ridley Scott flick Legend. People further took notice when she played Sloane in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off with Matthew Broderick. She has since enjoyed a successful film career that lasted well into the 2000’s. She was once married to Jason Connery, son of Sean Connery. She is presently married to Brian Henson, the son of Jim Henson.

In 1978, Karen Allen began her acting career in the movie Animal House. Several years after her film debut, she was able to land the role of Marion in Raiders of the Lost Ark with none other than Harrison Ford. That was the moment her career flourished and she has since starred in films like The Glass Menagerie, Sandlot, The Perfect Storm, and A Year by the Sea. The actress currently resides in Massachusetts and teaches yoga.

Leigh is still active in Hollywood at the moment and she recently appeared in the shows Atypical and Twin Peaks.

German actress Nastassja Kinski became an international sensation after viewers saw her great performance in the 1978 film Stay As You Are. She then received the leading role in Tess and her work in the movie earned her two nominations for the Golden Globes. She is still acting in both the United States and Germany. More recently, she appeared in Inland Empire and Sugar. Oh, and she has also competed in the German reality show Let’s Dance.
Dolly Parton
We don’t even need to explain who Dolly Parton is, do we? After all, she is one of the biggest stars of the 70’s! The country singer made waves when she came out with “Jolene”, “I Will Always Love You”, and “Love is Like a Butterfly”. She has enjoyed a huge amount of success ever since. Aside from that, she also starred in her own variety show Dolly! She’s still a huge hit these days and she actually went on a huge American tour in 2016. The singer also remade “Jolene” in collaboration with the musical group Pentatonix. Oh, and how cool is it that she’s godmother to Miley Cyrus?
Lauren Hutton
Lauren Hutton deviated from the beauty standards of the 70’s because of her notably adorable gap tooth. The fact that she was one of the biggest models of the time was significant because she made people feel better about their imperfections. She even went on to set a record of 27 Vogue cover appearances! She has also appeared in projects like The Gambler, I Feel Pretty, and The Joneses.
Jacqueline Bisset
Are you wondering what role propelled Jacqueline Bisset to fame? It was none other than Norma in The Detective with Frank Sinatra! During the 70’s, she appeared in a grand total of 17 films. Don’t be fooled into thinking that it signaled the end of her career, however. She actually starred in 9/11 and The Double Lover in 2017 and is working on several upcoming films.
Dawn Wells
Dawn Wells is perhaps best known as Mary Ann Summers, one of the castaways in Gilligan’s Island. She actually reprised the same role several times throughout the years. She has since enjoyed a successful acting career and even went on tour with a musical theater group. She published her memoir What Would Mary Ann Do? A Guide to Life in 2014 and worked as a marketing ambassador for MeTV in 2016.

Traci Lords is best known for her work in adult films which launched her into stardom. However, she was able to transition to mainstream projects as well. Maybe you remember her from her performances in Cry-Baby, MacGyver, and Married With Children! Aside from those films, she also appeared on the small screen in Melrose Place and Nash Bridges. Oh, and how can we forget that she is a talented musician who has worked on multiple film soundtracks? In fact, she was one of the first celebs who launched their own line of clothes. She is happily married to a Houston cardio-thoracic surgeon named Brad Allen since 1997. She fought breast cancer in 2003 and has appeared in a breast cancer documentary several years after her diagnosis.

Another Charlie’s Angels alumnus was able to make it to our list! Here we have Kate Jackson who is best known for portraying the beautiful Sabrina Duncan for a total of three seasons. After she left the show, she would work on projects like Baby Boom, as well as Scarecrow and Mrs. King. She also started writing and her memoir is set to be released in the year 2020.
Beth Chapman
Denver native Beth Chapman was 29 years old when she became the state of Colorado’s youngest licensed bail bondsman! However, her stepdaughter eventually beat her record. That’s a pretty impressive family if you ask us. She was able to attain fame for her performance in Dog the Bounty Hunter as well as Dog and Beth: On the Hunt. She was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2017 and ended up living through it.
Victoria Principal
You might not remember Victoria Principal’s part in The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, but we don’t blame you. It was only a small, unmemorable role. Nonetheless, we bet you remember her as Pamela in Dallas, a role that she played for nine years. She later appeared in more shows and movies. Her last acting credit was for the 2001 film Titans. These days, she focuses more on her charity and volunteer work instead of acting.

Patsy Ann McClenny would become better known as Morgan Fairchild. She was propelled to fame when she portrayed Jennifer Pace on Search For Tomorrow. The actress played the character for four years. The role helped her land parts in works like Dallas, Happy Days, and Kojak. However, she would only get another big role when the 80’s rolled in. Yep, we’re referring to the part of Constance Weldon Semple Carlyle from Flamingo Road. She remains active in the industry and even made a recent appearance on Days of Our Lives.

She actually started out as a musician during the 70’s and later became a comedian. When the 2000’s started, her acting career experienced a decline but she is still acting to this day.
