After Gilligan’s Island first aired, people frantically wrote to the Coast Guard. For some reason, people couldn’t separate reality from fiction. Viewers thought that they needed to be rescued, they didn’t get that it was a sitcom! Schwartz sat down for an interview with the Archive of American Television where he claimed those particular viewers were delusion. Schwartz said, “Now who did they think was laughing at what was happening to these people? Where did they think the music came from, and the commercials?”

When it comes to Gilligan’s Island, the lagoon plays a significant part in the series. However, the lagoon may have looked strangely familiar to many viewers as they enjoyed reruns of the show and films. Actually, that’s because the same lagoon was used for the monster film, The Creature From the Black Lagoon.
