According to the Associate Press, the last time that a regularly scheduled passenger rail will run from Burlington since 1953.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger said in a statement: “Very soon, we will be able to climb aboard a train in downtown Burlington, and arrive in New York City in time for dinner. This long-desired service will give a boost to our economic recovery at a critical time, and give travelers a new, lower-carbon connection to New York and the rest of the Amtrak system.”

The line will depart from Burlington every day at 10:10am and will arrive at Penn Station in New York City by 5:45pm. The service from Penn Station will leave at 2:21pm each day and be back in Burlington at 9:55pm.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott said: “This new service will benefit Vermonters in countless ways, all while helping to grow our economy.” He also said that this would not have been possible without the involvement of a few agencies and “the willingness of communities along the way.”

The train ticket between Burlington and New York City will start at $75. Amtrak will be adding more routes as well, including a Berkshire Flyer between New York City and Pittsfield, Massachusetts which will operate on weekends.

There is also a high speed train line between North Carolina and Virginia being planned as a part of the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements grants.
