Uni Gyre
Located in Gyre, the Omotesando shopping center right off of Cat Street, this is one of the most accessible cafe locations in the city. It’s surrounded by luxury shops like Chanel, Delvaux, and Comme des Garcons. The entire 4th floor is taken up by Gyre Food, with Uni Gyre being the cafe portion that takes up about half of the floor. It’s made up of a beautiful seating area of wooden cubes that were inspired by soil, according to Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects, that designed the space.
Connel Coffee
Connel Coffee was designed by firm Nendo, giving it the signature minimalistic style that’s so popular in Japan. Located in the Sogetsu Kaikan building’s second floor, this cafe has glass ceilings and stunning glass windows that overlook a beautiful green forest on one side as well as a stone garden on the other, creating a calm atmosphere throughout the whole cafe.
Higuma Doughnuts + Coffee Wrights
Higuma Doughnuts + Coffee Wrights is located behind the streets of Omotesando and Harajuku. It’s actually a combination of two Tokyo staples, hence the name. Designed by Chab Design, the cafe has a sunken interior and features lots of natural light inside and also a lovely outdoor space. The concrete walls and plywood give the cafe a neutral, calming vibe.
Kayaba Coffee
Located in the old fashioned Yanaka neighborhood, Kayaba Coffee is located in a renovated kissaten that was redone in 2009 thansk to art gallery Scai the Bathhouse as well as Taito Cultural and Historical Society. Designed by the Suppose Design Office, the cafe is located on the second floor in the Harajuku Station building.
